We invite you to join us again on Monday, June 25th at 6:00pm to celebrate food, farming, and the power of collective action. We meet on the last Monday of every month. This month we will hear from Steve Rose from the Maui Hemp Institute and Steve Phillips of Local Harvest.

Meeting location; Na Aikane O Maui. 562 Front Street Lahaina, Hawaii 96761.

What to Expect:

6:00pm: Aloha and Welcome! Blessing - Locavore Potluck (Please bring a dish to share) or pay $12.
6:30pm: Community Minute - what's happening on the 'aina (Please sign in at desk)
6:45pm: Steve Rose of Maui Hemp Institute
7:00pm: Steve Phillips of Local Harvest
7:30pm: Questions and Answers
7:45pm: unraffel from local businesses, farms, and donations

Steve Phillips is the Hawaii representative for PROUT (the Progressive Utilization Theory). He shares PROUT’s philosophy, which believes strongly in local self-reliance, a cooperative-based economy and the divine nature of all beings. Steve has worked for cooperative businesses on the mainland for 22 years, and advocates for the development of cooperative models on Maui. He moved to Maui 10 years ago and has worked for Down to Earth and Kapalua Farms. Six years ago he and his wife Ana started Local Harvest with the purpose of building the local food supply. He now oversees four businesses that work toward that purpose: Local Harvest, Island Fresh Delivery, Napili Farmer’s Market and Sattvic Kitchen. Local Harvest is an Ohana member of the Hawaii Farmers Union.
 
Community Assist Work Day
@ SimpliFresh Farms Farms-Lahaina
Sunday June 24th…Start Time 8 am
Please join owners James & Janell Simpliciano at their SimpliFresh Farm in Lahaina on Sunday June 24thas we assist them in erecting and relocating their Farms Green House. Due to reorganization of the farm layout they need to move their current Greenhouse Operations to a new location on the farm. Those attending Sunday’s event who are able will assist in the installation of a new expanded Green House, while others not construction oriented will be involved in moving plant starts and other materials to the new site.
  • It’s an early 8am start so to work in the coolest part of the Day.
  • Please wear appropriate work clothes, work shoes, hat, sunscreen and gloves are very much suggested.
  • Water and after work nourishment will be provided by vendors and restaurants.
  • Those wanting to car pool to the west side will meet at 7:15 sharp in Maalaea at the parking lot across from the gas station.
  • Entrance to the farm is off Lahaina Luna rd (at Jesus Sign;)
 
And don’t forget to RENEW your membership or SIGN UP if you need!!!! We will have a list available at the meeting of current members, as well as those who need to renew or sign up. You can sign up on paper or online. Just download the fill-able membership/account form online.
