Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center is proud to present its first annual Mauka to Makai. This two day, free event focuses on cultural activities that will connect one's understanding of the symbiotic relationship between the health of the mountains, the health of the ocean and the health of our community. Mauka to Makai activities have been set so that all ages can participate, making this a true family event.
Day 1 (August 5th) will take place at Ka`ala Farm. Participants will enjoy a day of cultural activities and education on traditional ahu`pua`a practices, land resource management, traditional food growing/preparation practices, weaving, and storytelling. Free lunch will beserved and will include locally sourced foods such as kalo and `ulu.
Day 2 (August 6th) will take place at Poka`i Bay. Participants will start the morning off with an educational small debris beach clean-up and the sharing of the historical significance of the Ku`ilioloa Heiau. Na Kama Kai will then begin its ocean clinic which will include oceanawareness education, stand up paddle boarding, canoe paddling, relay races, and swim lessons. Land activities will include the share of experiences on the Hokule'a by Wai`anae crew members, nose flute making, ku`i kalo, weaving, and various keiki activities that will focus onhealth, wellness & culture. Free lunch will be served and will include locally sourced food items, such as kalo, `ulu and fresh local fruits.
