Bryna Storch: Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation: The Local Food Safety Collaborative is a collaboration between National Farmers Union Foundation and the Food and Drug Administration to provide training, education, and outreach to local producers and processors to enhance the fundamental knowledge of food safety, and to help these local producers and processors comply with applicable Food Safety Modernization Act regulations.

Farms in Hawaii are currently facing big changes in food safety rules and regulations, called the Food Safety & Modernization Act (FSMA). Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation is reaching out to all of our members to help in understanding that new rules apply to your farm, or will apply as you upscale your production in the future. Bryna Storch, a farmer from Kauai and secretary of the HFUU Kauai chapter, will present an introduction to the new rules, essential farm safety practices for all farms and opportunities for the trainings and certifications that are now required for farmers.

UH West Oahu Imi Naauao: In 2017-2018, a research project with University of Hawaii at West Oahu Imi Naauaou Hawaiian Knowing and Well-Being Study. Kahumana Farm Hub was one of five projects. Our team's task was to identify solutions for improving economic wellbeing by supporting 'āina based practices. We explored economic opportunity possibilities through Kahumana Farm Hub (KFH) as a nearby resource in order to highlight both existing assets and regional growers' needs.

Dr. Christy Mello: University of Hawaii at West Oahu is an applied cultural anthropologist. She completed her Ph.D. in Anthropology at the University of New Mexico. Her scholarship is community led and based as evidenced by her consulting role with different grassroots organizations. Dr. Mello is one of the principal investigators for the Imi Naauao project at UH West Oahu

Saleh Azizi is a Ph.D. candidate with University of Hawaii at Manoa studying policy incentives to grow the local food economy. He has worked as the Kahumana Farm Hub manager since its start in January 2017 and been a research assistant with the UH West Oahu Imi Naauao research project since August 2017.
